stress management @ Tuesday, October 24, 2006

9 days to 'A' Levels, hope everybody is coping well with his or her revision.
While editting the essay for my university admission, I decided to do some research on how white hairs are related to stress. This is because recently my sister found quite a number of white hairs on my head. She said its because of the exam stress.
But question, are greying hairs related to stress?

Myth:Worry can turn hair white:
Fact: Nothing turns hair white but the gradual decrease of pigmentation that occurs with age. Shock or stress does not affect hair color. Graying whether it comes with the normal process of aging or prematurely, has a genetic basis. If you are caucasion, you'll begin graying on average at about age thirty-four, the average black person begins at forty-four.
Whenever it happens, hair turns gray or white when pigment ceases to be produced in the hair root, and new hairs that grow in that are gray or white. Overnight graying rarely if ever occurs. In any case, it has never been documented. It is impossible that pigmented hair could simply shed its color without benefit of a bleach. There is, however, a rare type of scalp disorder, known as alopecia areata, which causes hair to shed rapidly. This might leave remaining unpigmented hairs looking all whiter, hence the "overnight" myth.

So i guess we had the wrong idea. Oh yes, I heard that iron is good for recovering the pigments in your hair..

Here are some tips for people who are facing stress:

Five ways to keep stress under control
In order to alter your response to elements that are out of your control, consider these stress-reduction tips.
Take on one task at a time. Avoid extra stress by centering your attention on one task at a time. Focusing on one job will make it easier, and will probably result in a job well done.

Eat nutritious foods. Eating a balanced, low-fat diet will give you more energy. Avoid excessive quantities of alcohol, heavy meals and drinks high in caffeine & sugar, which can leave you fatigued.
Read that, yining?? Get a balanced diet!!!

Take care of your body. Not only does exercise improve your level of fitness; it also stimulates chemical changes in your body that relax you and increase your mind's alertness. Try walking or working out at least three times a week.
And yes, i need to lose some weight to fit into the dress for grad night.
Find a few friends. A few close friends can be a great source of support when you need it. Sharing your feelings with a sympathetic ear can be therapeutic. You may gain insight into what's bothering you, and feel less burdened by your problems.
Quite true. So thanks to Jeanette,Huiting,Cristal,Minhui,Yining
Laugh a lot.Laughter relaxes your muscles and releases stress-reducing hormones. Studies prove its benefits in preventing illness and releases natural painkillers. And it feels good, too.
OMG, Hui Ting, your comment is true!! So huiting's lame jokes do help =)
Sorry but let me quote your ultimate joke:

"Hey, lend me normal(distribution) table"

"You want normal table ah? Neh, there are so many here. Eh, but these are normal school tables so don't know whether you can use it."
