back. @ Friday, December 16, 2005
hi pple, i'm back from Chiang Mai. Great trip, indeed. I learnt alot and enjoyed alot too.
OCIP rocks.
From Chiang Mai airport, we got into 3 cars and had a 3-4 hrs ride to the Shan village. The facilities in the village were...better than i expected. But the first time when i saw the toilet, it was like..."Oh my gosh...how am i going to wash up.". Heh, but got used to it from Day 2 onwards. From Day2-Day4, we became the "teachers" of the school there. Sarah, Wee Kiat and myself took charge of the Grade 3 students. Some were mischievous, some were quiet, most were shy. Honestly, i've underestimated the kids there. They're just grade 3 and they are doing 2-digits multiplicity already...like..." 95 x 26" ??? Wow, i can't work that out w/o my calculator. We tested their spelling, conducted origami session, colouring session and outdoor drawing session. The outdoor drawing session was fun :) The small fellows coloured my drawing...hehe i wanna put it up in my room. Leaving the school was kinda sad, cos some of them are not from the village we stayed. Alright, back at the village, we spent most of the time playing with the kids. Folding paper cranes, paper balloons, flying kites, story-telling, playing some games....etc.... Cultural Night was great...but i fell sick few hours before the actual thing. So, sorry to my team members for not helping out much in the preparation, and much thanks to Ms Ng for her hospitality :) What we had during cultural night---Fashion parade( where we wore ethnic costumes) , Mass Dance ( the Ndp and orientation combined) , Pass the Ball game ( just threw the inflated ball to the audience) , Singing ( some ndp songs) , and the Shan wave ( same idea as the Kallang wave). Xu Ming's santa claus was hilarious, we had great laugh while making the beard too :p After the Shan people's performances, they had some karaoke-session thing where anybody could just go up to the stage and sing. It was quite draggy but we managed to listen to Mr Leong's singing :DWe left the village and spent two days at the La Hu Orphanage. The kids there were not as open as the people of Shan. But i at least enjoyed the singing session--Hokey Pokey, London Bridge, Mah Poh Leh ( or wadeva u spell it). The cultural night there was...hmmm, one happening. The ribon/cloth of my kimono got loosened while dancing. What happened after that...i'll leave it to your imagination, hahas. The last two days, we went down to Chiang Mai city to shop :))) I got a fake playboy cap, and my first pair of levi's jeans from the shopping centre. Its not imitation alright. Night market...got really impressed by Lemo and Zhang Mei's bargaining skills. Woo, i managed to buy things cheaper due to their help :) There wasn't any accessories or souveneirs that caught my eyes. So, i didn't manage to buy back souveneirs for many, sorry for that :(That night gathering at room 602 was like woah. We played cards till 12 plus and played " Truth or Dare" till like 2 plus?? Most of the guys slept during the game, sigh. The girls chatted till really late. Haha, girls' gossiping sessions are always fun :)
Wow...i think this is my longest blog entry. I shall write my reflections and all those in the next entry. Those who bothered to read all the above chanks, thanx alot.
i'm going to upload the pics on my webshots page by today!!
